Andrea Akin is a graduate of Miami University with a bachelor's degree of Fine Arts in Interior Design. Post graduation she worked in Chicago for a furniture manufacturer as a designer and account manager. Moving back to Ohio in 2014 she has worked as a Senior Workplace Consultant specializing in Healthcare and Education for LOTH in Cincinnati. She works closely with large clients on various projects from project discovery, design and space-planning, finish selections and furniture implementation. LOTH works closely with their manufacturer partner, Steelcase, to use their products and research to bring our local projects to life. Andrea is involved in the community through the IIDA’s Cincinnati Dayton chapter and is currently the President of the Emerging Leaders board for the University of Cincinnati’s economic center. She lives in West Chester with her husband and 5-year-old daughter.

With a background in education and technology, Lori values the importance of personal experiences in shaping understanding and engagement. Lori’s work includes participating in an AI Study team, designing Socratic Seminars, instructional guides, lesson plans, academy courses, and videos. She also has experience in instructional leadership, curriculum writing, and organizing professional development institutes for over 800 educators annually. Lori enjoys working with both adult and student learners, especially through teaching academy classes where she models and coaches K-12 teachers. Her approach is inspired by Sir Ken Robinson’s belief that education is deeply personal and about engaging individuals to raise achievement.

Kelly Hartings (left) is a seasoned Middle School science teacher with 23 years of experience across three Ohio school districts. Currently teaching seventh grade science, Kelly also serves on her district's leadership team. Jess Brown (right) is a Middle School Math Teacher with a decade of experience in two Ohio districts near Cincinnati. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Middle School Education from the University of Cincinnati, focusing on mathematics and natural sciences, and a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction with a STEM Certificate. Actively involved in NSTA and NCTM, she teaches seventh grade mathematics, serves on her district's leadership team, and advises the Middle School MATHCOUNTS club. Jess aims to unveil the beauty of mathematics and its real-world connections to students through STEM initiatives.

During Ellie's time in Chicago Public Schools, she taught at STEM Magnet schools, where she discovered a profound passion for ensuring all students had access to K-8 STEM education, as a means to promote social and economic mobility. Currently, as the Partnerships Manager at SAM Labs for the Midwest, Ellie collaborates with districts to support and enhance their STEM mission and vision, driving innovative educational opportunities for students across the region.

Whitney Buell is the principal of Indian Hill Elementary School, dedicated to fostering the social, emotional, and academic growth of each student. She ensures that students feel safe and cared for every day. Buell began her career in 2004 as a teacher at St. Joseph School in Crescent Springs, Kentucky, followed by teaching roles at Beechwood Elementary in Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky, and WD Hartley Elementary in St. Augustine, Florida. She then served as Curriculum Resource Coordinator at PVPV/Rawlings Elementary in St. Augustine, Florida. From 2014 to 2017, Buell was the principal of Springdale Elementary in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Buell holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Kentucky (2000), a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Northern Kentucky University (2004), and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Xavier University (2007). She also earned her Superintendent License from Xavier University in 2019.

Hayden began his career in 2002 as an Intervention Specialist and Kindergarten Teacher at Cincinnati Public Schools. He then served as an Intervention Specialist at Wyoming Middle School (2006-2007). From 2007 to 2017, he held various roles at Mt. Healthy City Schools, including Intervention Specialist, Dean of Students, Site Administrator for an Alternative Program, Assistant Principal, and Associate Principal. Since 2017, he has been the Assistant Principal at Indian Hill School District.

Betsy Gentile Henning has served Indian Hill Schools as a 5th grade teacher, gifted specialist, and now as a Instructional Coach. She helped to lead a team of educators in guiding Indian HIll Elementary to achieve Ohio STEM Designation and serves as an OSLN STEM Designation team member. Betsy is Google Coaching, ISTE, PBL 101, PBL Leadership, and PBL Coaching certified. She participated in the first cohort of OSLN Fostering STEM Network and just completed the OSLN Innovative Leaders Institute. She was honored as the University of Cincinnati College of Economics Financial Literacy Educator of the Year in 2023. Higdon began her role at Indian Hill in 2018. Her professional background includes serving as Chief Information Officer for Loveland City School District (2012-2018), and working as a Corporate Communicator for Chiquita Brands International and Lexmark International, Inc. (2008-2011). Prior to that, she was a TV Anchor/Reporter for various stations, including Channel One in Los Angeles (1993-2008).

Loni recently completed her 18th year teaching, and 10th year at Indian Hill. Attending PBL World in 2023 changed her as a teacher. She realized what a gift it was to teach in a district that honors and encourages teacher autonomy and creativity. Loni learned how to implement STEM in reading, writing, and history, which she never knew was possible. Her favorite part of the school day is Morning Meeting because it sets a positive tone for the rest of the school day. When students feel like they belong to a classroom community, they develop empathy for others and have the confidence to take risks. When she is not teaching, she loves spending time with her 7 year old twins, Shepherd and Emmie. One of her favorite family activities is going on hiking adventures in new parks.

Johnson's professional journey includes roles such as Early Intervention Classroom Aide at Cincinnati Children's Hospital (2005-2006), Special Education Program Coordinator for the City of Cincinnati's Division of Therapeutic Recreation (2006-2008), and Campus Tour Guide and Minority Recruiter for the University of Cincinnati (2008-2009). He has a passion for educational innovation and brings that experience to Paradigm Cyber Ventures. He leads strategy for Paradigm and can support schools from visioning to implementation and success.

Keith most recently served as an Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction and has been an Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, Tech Director, Principal, and Teacher. Keith has first hand experience designing and launching groundbreaking high school programs that change the outcomes for students. Graduates earn industry credentials, are accepted into the top cyber college programs in the country, and are offered full time job offers as security analysts.

The 2023 NASS National Superintendent of the Year, veteran educational leader Kirk Koennecke has 18 years of experience in administration and 27 years of service to students. Mr. Koennecke begins his sixth year at the Indian Hill School District after serving previously as the superintendent at the Graham Local School District. He is a member of the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), the Buckeye Association of School Administrators (BASA), The American Association of School Personnel Administrators (AASPA), the National Superintendents Roundtable (NSR), and NCERT. Mr. Koennecke earned his Master of Arts in Education and Superintendent Licensure from Wright State University; his Master of Science in Education from John Carroll University; his Master of Science in Sports Administration from Miami University of Ohio; and his Bachelor of Science in Education from The Ohio State University. In addition to his national recognition, Mr. Koennecke was awarded the John Carroll University as the 2023 Distinguished Educator.

She has held various roles such as adjunct college professor and curriculum specialist, and is licensed in curriculum instruction and professional development. At MC2 STEM school in Cleveland, she developed PBL models and curriculum, and her work extends to the Ohio Department of Education, Stanford University's SCALE, and Envision Learning Partners. She focuses on integrating performance assessments and competency-based education in Ohio, collaborating with educators to transform educational practices. An advocate for AI and emerging technologies, she contributed to the AI Education Toolkit for Ohio educators. Danielle Lintz is the High School Assistant Principal at Indian Hill Exempted Village School District, where she prioritizes building strong relationships with students and families. Lintz began her career in education in 2000 and joined the Indian Hill Exempted Village School District in 2014. Her professional experience includes serving as a Teacher and Intervention Specialist at North College Hill City Schools (2001-2014), a Science Teacher at Indian Hill Elementary School (2014-2022), and an Innovative Instructional Coach (2020-2021). She has also been Vice President of the Indian Hill Educators Professional Organization (2021-2022) and a member of the Brave Leadership Team (2021-2022).

Michael Lubelfeld, Ed.D., has been a public school superintendent in Illinois since 2010. He is currently the superintendent of North Shore School District 112, which includes nine elementary schools and nearly 4,000 students. Lubelfeld holds a Doctor of Education in curriculum and instruction from Loyola University of Chicago, where his dissertation focused on effective middle school social studies instruction. He also teaches at Loyola University and National Louis University. Lubelfeld received the 2021 Administration and Supervision Distinguished Alumni Award from Loyola University. He has presented on leadership topics globally and is active in leadership development. Lubelfeld co-moderates #suptchat on Twitter and has authored several books, including "The Unlearning Leader" (2017), "Student Voice" (2018), and "The Unfinished Leader" (2021). Jackie McCarthy, a self-proclaimed math nerd, has been igniting students' passion for math, from Algebra 1 to BC Calculus, for 9 years. She loves puzzles and incorporates as many as she can into her lessons. While her teaching experience has primarily been in a traditional setting, she has recently begun experimenting with Project-Based Learning, using Spheros as a fun tool in her Geometry classes. When not teaching, Jackie loves to travel with her husband, who is also a math teacher. She can usually be found lost in a book, conquering a hiking trail, belting out Taylor Swift songs, or showering her cat, Hagrid, with love.

Matthew L. Montgomery began his career at Waterloo Local School District in Atwater, Ohio as a science teacher, and later, as principal of Waterloo Middle School and Waterloo High School. After working in the school buildings, he became the Superintendent of Waterloo Local School District and focused heavily on enhancing STEM curriculum. The position of Superintendent of Waterloo Local School District led Montgomery to Revere Local School District in Bath, OH where he served as Superintendent. He also serves on the Superintendent Advisory Board of JASON Learning. In addition, Montgomery is an instructor in the Department of Leadership and Administration at the American College of Education, facilitating professional coursework for graduate students.

Jackie completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education grades PreK-3 with an endorsement in grades 4-5 from Miami University. Jackie continued her education at Xavier University and received her Master’s Degree in Reading grades K-12. Jackie began her teaching career as a third grade teacher in Lake Forest, IL. She later moved to Cincinnati and has worked as a third grade teacher, technology facilitator and most recently an innovation specialist in the Indian Hill Exempted Village School District and recently finished her 22nd year of teaching. Jackie was an integral part in designing and implementing Indian Hill Elementary School’s first Innovation Lab (iLab)/Makerspace and has recently taken her knowledge to develop the school’s new and improved Makerspace that opened for the 2023-2024 school year. Jackie was recently recognized by Learn21 with the Innovator in Instruction award. Jackie is a club advisor for Maker Club and is a member of the Indian Hill School District Leadership team. Jackie is passionate about STEM, traveling, and cheering on her boys at their various sporting events.

Heather Sherman, Sr. STEM Relationship Manager at Battelle, leads the national STEMx network, advocating for STEM as a national priority and elevating the voices of STEM leaders across the U.S. She collaborates with higher education institutions, local education agencies, non-profits, and industry leaders to support the growth of STEM networks. Previously, Heather directed the Ohio STEM Learning Network, overseeing the state’s STEM school designation process and leading the annual statewide student Design Challenge. She is committed to experiential learning for educators, managing programs like the Manufacturing and Engineering Externship Program (MEEP), Ohio Rural Educator Program (OREP), and a NASA Educator Professional Development program. Heather holds a BA in English from Roanoke College and an MBA from Franklin University. She has been an active volunteer and board member of the Ohio Afterschool Network since 2018.

Dr. Sieloff joins JASON after almost 20 years of working in high-poverty public schools. He has worked as a teacher, Supervisor for Nontraditional Education, High School Assistant Principal, and Middle School Principal. His career has been focused on designing opportunities for students to find success through experiential and project-based learning in K-12 public education to prepare students for college, career, and service opportunities upon graduation. Dr. Sieloff’s research has focused on English Learner student success and equity in education for all students.

Dr. Smalley has overseen the evolution of JASON into a nationally-acclaimed STEM education organization reaching over 5 million students and teachers each year. Prior, Dr. Smalley served for 30 years in public schools, developing innovative, accelerated learning and zero drop-out models, and at the University of Virginia, cultivating strong leadership in education from the local to the state level.

Amanda Sopko

Gifted Intervention Specialist & Teacher Leader

Amanda earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Middle Childhood Education with concentrations in mathematics, language arts, and reading from Kent State University where she later earned her Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction as a Mathematics Specialist. She also earned an Endorsement in Gifted Education from Xavier University. This year marks Amanda's 21th year of teaching. Currently, she works as a Gifted Intervention Specialist at Indian Hill Elementary School. Previously, she spent 18 years teaching middle school Math/STEM and gifted interventions at the middle school level. Additionally, Amanda advises the Future City Team, which is consistently awarded top 5 placement in state competitions. She is currently a member of the Indian Hill District Leadership team and Strategic Plan Leadership Team. Amanda’s interests and skills include curriculum design, differentiated instruction, planning and executing school wide events, educational research, creating STEM experiences for her students and children, running, and presenting at educational conferences.

Angie Summers

College & Career Readiness Coordinator

Angie Summers is the College and Career Ready Coordinator for Doddridge County Schools, a position she has held for three years. Under her leadership, the district has experienced remarkable growth, with students taking over 450 virtual college classes last year alone. Angie collaborates with 26 local companies to provide students with job shadowing, internships, work-study, and apprenticeship opportunities. Her efforts ensure that all students participating in CTE programs graduate with multiple certifications, are well-prepared for college, or secure excellent jobs immediately after high school. Recently, several students graduated with a two-year degree from Glenville State University, a testament to her dedication to student success.

Dr. melissa stewart

Dr. Stewart has been an educator since 1992 and has served the Indian Hill Exempted Village School District since 2007. Her background includes roles as an Intervention Specialist at various schools and as Special Education Supervisor and Principal at Brantner Elementary. From 2007 to 2017, she was Principal of Indian Hill Elementary School and is now the Chief Academic Officer for the district. Melissa also teaches as an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Cincinnati and serves on the CAPA Board of Directors. She holds a Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University, a Master of Education, and a Doctorate of Education from the University of Cincinnati. Committed to the #IHPromise, Melissa keeps students central to her work, always striving for their best. She believes life is an adventure and brings this philosophy to her dynamic educational leadership.

Danny's passion for education and technology intersect seamlessly in his work at Sphero, where he collaborates with schools, educators, and educational organizations across the Mid Atlantic region to integrate robotics and innovative learning solutions into classrooms. His experience as an educator allows him to understand the needs and challenges faced by teachers, empowering him to tailor Sphero's products and programs to meet the diverse needs of students and educators alike.

She has been serving the Indian Hill Exempted Village School District since 2022. Previously, she taught English at Mason High School and Indian Hill High School, and served as Assistant Principal and Principal at Mason Middle School. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University and a Master of Arts from Xavier University.
