Ways to "Experienceship"
Internship
Internships are paid or unpaid
periods of work for an employer
who has provided a specific job description for a role they need filled. You are expected to activate your skills and put them to work for the organization. They typically last 3-10 weeks, and could take place in summer or during the school year.
Short-term Project
These are similar to internships, and may have the word intern in the title. The main difference is that your role is clearly defined by the scope of one specific project. When that project is finished, your internship is over. These typically last 2-4 weeks. Many can be done remotely and after school.
Job Shadow
A job shadow is an opportunity to see what the "day-to-day" at a job is like. You will spend time at the workplace observing around one to three employees. These experiences typically last one to two days at the most. You may need to miss school, so summer may be preffered.
Externship
An externship takes place onsite at an organization's office, and typically in summer. These will offer the opportunity to observe a variety of job functions or departments. Occasionally you may be asked to jump in and help out, but most likely you'll observe and ask questions. These typically last 2-6 weeks.
